Southwest Developmental Services, Inc. (SDSI) is a private not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation originally formed in 1974. SDSI contracts with the State of Kansas to serve as the Community Developmental Disability Organization (CDDO) for the 18 counties in Southwest and Central Kansas. SDSI also contracts with each of the 18 counties to provide this service.
SDSI has a total of 9 staff with offices located in Garden City and Great Bend.

About SDSI
SDSI has operated as a CDDO only since 1999 and does not provide direct services to individuals. SDSI is currently the only private not-for-profit, multi-county CDDO that does not provide direct services in the state of Kansas. SDSI is one of only 5 out of 27 CDDOs in the state that does not provide direct services.
The SDSI governing board
As a CDDO only, our governing board does not have a conflict of interest in the decision-making process as it might have if SDSI was also a service provider.
The SDSI Board of Directors is comprised of one representative from each of the counties in our service area. Their respective county commission recommends each of these representatives.
The SDSI Board of Directors is totally independent of all service providers in the area.
